Project “History and Interpretation of the Bible”
All the members of the department actually participate in the project “History and Interpretation of the Bible” created in 2012 as research project no. P401/12/G168 supported by the Czech Science Foundation (Grantová agentura České republiky). The interdisciplinary project is structured into five units and the distinctive teams of scholars from more academic institutions of the Czech Republic are involved in it. The members of our department participate in the research in the units highlighted below:
1. The World of the Hebrew Bible: Epigraphy and History of Levant, Mesopotamia and Egypt in the 2nd and 1st millenium BCE
1.1 Levantine Epigraphy of the Late Bronze Age (15th–12th centuries BCE)
1.2 Aramaic Epigraphy in the 1st Millenium BCE, till 1st Century BCE
2. Old Testament Studies
3. New Testament Studies
4. Interpretation of the Bible in the Early Christianity
4.1 Interpretations of the Bible in the Greek and Latin Fathers
4.2 Interpretations of the Bible in the Apocryphal, Apostolic and Other Early Christian Writings

Prof. Ladislav Tichý, Th.D.
Researches New Testament Greek, New Testament vocabulary and a range of themes in the New Testament, in particular the teology of the Pauline epistles. He co-translated the Jerusalem Bible into Czech and works with the team translating the Old Testament. He is a member of the Czech section of the European society for Catholic theology. He regularly attends meetings and gives lectures and short speeches for the Colloquium Biblicum in Vienna, a group of Bible researchers in Central Europe. As a Czech Republic representative he regularly attends meetings of New Testament Catholic biblists from German-speaking countries.
Doc. Petr Chalupa, Th.D.
His research focuses on the correlation of synchronic and diachronic analyses for interpreting biblical texts.
Doc. Dr. Petr Mareček, Th.D.
He specialises in exegesis of the texts of Synoptic Gospels and the Pauline epistles. He is a member of the Czech Catholic Biblical work and a representative of the Czech Bishops´ Conference in the Czech Biblical Society. He attends meetings of the Czech section of the European Society for Catholic Theology and a symposium of the central-European biblists Colloquium biblicum in Vienna.
ThLic. Stanislav Pacner, Th.D.
He specialises in text, linguistic and literary analyses of the Hebrew texts of the Old Testament.
RNDr. Gabriela Ivana Vlková, Th.D.
She researches the prophetic texts of the Old Testament (Isaiah).
Mgr. Pavel Černuška, Ph.D.
specialises in Latin Medieval studies.
Mgr. Veronika Černušková, Ph.D.
Researches Greek patristic literature; she has been involved in translating Stromata by Clement of Alexandria into Czech.
Mgr. Jana Plátová, Ph.D.
Researches Greek patristic literature and ancient Christian literature. She has been involved in translating Stromata by Clement of Alexandria into Czech. She contributes to the Adamantius journal.
