General information

In 1990, soon after the Faculty of Theology was incorporated into Palacký University again, the Department of Philosophy was created . The associated professor Karel Říha was appointed as the first head. Since 1998 professor Lenka Karfíková was appointed the head of the department. The activity of the Centre for Patristic, Medieval, and Renaissance Texts started in July 2000. During 2000-2004 prof. Karfíková was also the head of the research project.. Since 2000/20001, in connection with the creation of the Centre, the department started to offer courses in patrology. As of February 1st, 2001, the department was given its present name “Department of Philosophy and Patrology”.

In 2002-2005 the chair of the department was held by Václav Ventura. Between 2005-2010 Petr Dvořák served as the acting head of the department . Since 2010 the associated professor Martin Cajthaml has been appointed the head of the department.
